Gymnastics was once a sport that only men were allowed to participate in. The gymnastic exercises were used in ancient Greece to condition their military and to condition the mind, body and spirit of children.
Modern gymnastic exercises began in Sweden. The apparatus used by gymnasts was developed in Germany.
The one piece, skin tight leotard is worn by both gymnasts and dancers. The two leotards are constructed differently because the same leotard cannot be worn by both. The dancer's leotard is loose in the leg and cut high while the gymnasts leotard in tight in the thigh. Both leotards are designed for the comfort of the wearer.
At one time the girls gymnastic leotard was drab in color. Today they come in a variety of colors, patterns and styles ranging from embroidery, patterns to rhinestones and sparkles.
Every gymnast has at least two leotards that make up her wardrobe - one for workouts, and one or more for competitions. There is no restriction in what she wears for workouts but the competition leotard must have the color of her team.
Wearing a stunning sparkling outfit only adds to the confidence of the wearer, and therefore enhances their performance.
Indeed girls gymnastics leotards are more than just an outfit - they are a confidence booster too.
